About
Edgar knows whenever his mom gets ''the look'' they won't be staying where they are for long, which means another town and another man. This time they're leaving Toronto for northwestern Canada. They'll be housesitting, and with the house comes Benjamin, an old Newfoundland. After landing in Dawson, Edgar and his mom meet Caroline and her dad, Ceese. When his mom and Ceese meet, Edgar knows she's going to make him the new man. It doesn't matter that Ceese has a girlfriend his mom always gets what she wants. Edgar talks to Benjamin about his concerns, and to Edgar's surprise, Benjamin understands and wordlessly answers. Edgar loses his ability to speak to anyone but Benjamin; when he tries to talk to a human, his voice becomes a bark. Desperate to stop his mom from ruining people's lives, Edgar and Benjamin go on a journey across the frozen Yukon River. With cracking ice, freezing temperatures, and wolves, Edgar must find a way to survive before he can stop his mom from wrecking everything.
