Store Assistant Manager

Location: 450 Country Hills Blvd NE Unit 132, Country Hills

We seek an experienced Store Assistant Manager, preferably from a specialty retail environment, with at least one year in a leadership role that is able to support the development of our store. The successful candidate will demonstrate retail business understanding and the judgment and consistent approach required to lead and develop a productive sales team, in concert with the Store Manager. Position Outline:

As the full time Assistant Manager of a brand new Mastermind store, you will provide leadership and day to day operations management and coaching for the store team. You will bring your enthusiasm & experience to a variety of day, evening and weekend shifts most particularly supporting the critical trading periods.

The primary responsibilities will include contributing as a member of the management team:

Sales and Leadership

  • Maximize the sales opportunities in the store
  • Create an exceptional customer service experience
  • Motivate and coach employees to meet their potential and our customer's needs
  • Participate in the creation and maintenance of an enticing shopping environment

Store Operations

  • Participate in the creation of employee schedules and shift zone coverage. Monitor floor coverage throughout the shift

  • In conjunction with Head Office, arrange for repairs and maintenance to keep the premises in top quality condition

The successful candidate will have strong organizational and communication skills and be well versed in payroll processing.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Using the Dayforce WFM & Payroll system receive and verify various payroll related data and complete preparations associated with the finalization and transmission of hourly and salaried staff payroll, for assigned stores. Ensure accuracy, completeness and all necessary authorizations and together with payroll team transmit payroll consistent with bi-weekly pay cycle
  • Provide ongoing support and information (proactive and reactive) to store manager and/or designates regarding the requirements and processes for scheduling, timesheets, payroll processing and authorizations and generally with respect to the accurate completion and administration of payroll activities
  • Respond to questions from all staff of all levels across the chain with respect to payroll processing practice, group medical benefits, individual payroll information and individual staff access to personal records
  • Complete benefit enrolments/deletions/changes directly in the provider’s system
  • Responsible to maintain confidentiality of information at all times and work to stringent timeframes
  • May be involved to provide training to new staff reviewing all aspects of the system and as required respond to questions, problem solve, implement changes and upgrades
  • Keep current on legislative changes that will impact payroll administration and processing, including for example changes in taxation rates, minimum wage and other employee legislated requirements across Provinces in which Mastermind trades

Qualifications:

  • Minimum High School diploma, post-secondary certification an asset
  • Canadian Payroll Certificate or currently enrolled preferred
  • Minimum 2 years comparable experience; supporting a multi-location employer preferred

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Further develop and shape the strategy of this crucial category at Mastermind; considering our unique place in the market, developing merchant strategies with regards to product mix and direction, promotions and marketing strategy, and merchandising and in-store presentation
  • All while doing so with an eye on sales, inventory and margin targets, constantly reviewing to ensure alignment
  • Constant review of multiple data sources to continually interpret and refine strategies as they relate to actual performance and customer demand
  • Selection of product, planning of order quantity and timing, execution and tracking of purchase orders
  • Source new category products and regularly review performance indicators for existing ones to ensure competitiveness and commercial viability of individual product and/or product lines to maximize profitability and present a compelling offer to customers
  • Negotiate purchase conditions including price, returns, special considerations and logistics and issue the order to purchase
  • Track order status, arrival of goods, receiving into inventory, splits to stores (including on line store) and contact suppliers to resolve issues (i.e. quantity, damage etc)
  • Regularly monitor warehouse and individual store stock levels. React to changes in demand or logistical challenges
  • Determine product write offs, sell downs, returns and removal
  • Establish and manage third party relationships

Communication:

  • Regularly communicate with selling teams (store and on line store) to discuss plans, introduce new product and selling features of that product and to gain a solid understanding of the product impact on the sales floor.
  • Visit stores to obtain first-hand knowledge and seek input and recommendations from sales teams.
  • Regularly communicate with other departments, particularly Marketing, Store Operations and Logistical services to ensure maximized category representation and sales

Special events & activities:

  • Develop specific promotions through the year and for critical trading period for product category. Create business plan for promotion and recommend to Head of Purchasing.  Monitor promotion success (sales, sell through, price, margin etc)
  • Plan inventory requirements for category and implement processes related to annual Warehouse sale

Purchasing budget:

  • Develop for approval and administrate budgets for category

Analyze cost, margin, sell through results by vendor and individual product and provide recommendations

This opportunity requires you to plan & organize the recruitment & selection of qualified staff using established processes; monitor results as well as facilitate their orientation and on-going training to which you will develop and provide coaching of staff performance including daily observation & redirection; identification of skill gaps, compliance issues and conduct formalized performance review processes.
